The San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs face off on Wednesday at PETCO Park for game two of their series.
The San Diego Padres shook off an early deficit on Tuesday to get the win over the Cubs. Derek Norris, Yangervis Solarte, and Will Venable each had hits as the Padres scored four runs on five hits. Starting pitcher James Shields allowed six hits and two runs while striking out 11 over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Joaquin Benoit got the win to go to 4-1 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 11th save. For Wednesday’s game the Padres start Tyson Ross who has allowed 44 hits and 20 earned runswhile striking out 54 over 45.2 innings for a 2-3 record and a 3.94 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs got off to a strong start on Tuesday but they were unable to make it hold up as they lost the Padres. Chris Coughlan hit two home runs, Dexter Fowler hit a home run, and Kris Bryant had a hot as the Cubs scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jason Hammel allowed three hits and two runs while striking out eight over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as James Russell took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Cubs start Tsuyoshi Wada who allowed 67 hits and 25 runs while striking out 57 over 69.1 innings for a 4-4 record and a 3.25 ERA last season.
San Diego is 6-1 against the NL Central, 7-2 as a favorite, and 8-1 in Ross’ last nine home starts. Chicago is 6-2 in Wednesday games, 1-5 in their last six road games, and 0-5 in Wada’s last five starts. Chicago is 3-10 in their last 13 games in San Diego.
I am less of a believer in the Cubs than most and we see them come up short once again.
