The Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Sunday as they close out their interleague rivalry MLB series.
The Kansas City Royals won for the fifth time in a row as they beat the Cardinals on Saturday. Alex Gordon hit a home run and Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer had hits as the Royals scored three runs on six hits. Edison Volquez allowed four hits and two runs while striking out one over 6.0 innings to get the win to raise his record to 4-3 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Royals start Yordano Ventura who has allowed 45 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 36 over 47.1 innings for a 3-3 record and a 4.56 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals continue to lead the NL Central but they are just a game over .500 on the road as they took another loss to the Royals on Saturday. Kolten Wong, Matt Carpenter, and Jhonny Peralta each had hits as the Cardinals scored two runs on four hits. Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed six hits and three runs while striking two over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-3 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Cardinals start Michael Wacha who has allowed 41 hits and 12 runs while striking out 31 over 50.2 innings for a 6-0 record and a 2.13 ERA.
Kansas City is 1805 as a home favorite, 24-8 in their last 32 home games, and, 5-0 in Ventura’s last five interleague starts. St. Louis is 39-16 in game three of a series, 2-6 in their last eight interleague games as an underdog, and 13-3 in Wacha’s last 16 starts. St. Louis is 1-6 in the last seven meetings of these two.
Wacha gets into a lot of trouble early but he usually gets off the hook though I am not so sure he is able to do that against the Royals. This one is a coin flip but I will take the Royals again.
