Billy Burns and Brett Lawrie each hit home runs and Billy Butler had a hit as the Athletics scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Kendall Graveman allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out four over 5.2 innings to not get a decision as Evan Scribner got the win and Tyler Clippard earned his fifth save. For Friday’s game the A’s start Sonny Gray who has allowed 48 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 61 over 66 innings for a 5-2 record and a 1.77 ERA.

The New York Yankees led most of the way but blew it late taking the loss in Oakland. Brian McCann had three hits including a home run, Brett Gardner had three hits, and Alex Rodriguez had a hit as the Yankees scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-7 for the season. For Friday’s game the Yankees start Chris Capuano who has allowed 12 hits and six runs while striking out eight over 7.1 innings for a 0-2 record and a 7.36 ERA.
