The Boston Red Sox look to begin a long hot streak beginning with the Texas Rangers in Saturday action.
The Boston Red Sox were penciled in as a challenger in the American League East but have yet to live up to those predictions. The Red Sox fell another game off the pace in a 7-4 loss at Texas on Friday. Nothing went favorably and it started on the mound with Steven Wright giving up three runs over 5.2 frames before Alexi Ogando and Craig Breslow allowing two runs apiece. The offense consisted of six hits and four walks with Hanley Ramirez going 2-4 with a homer and two RBI’s and two runs. Left hander Wade Miley looks to continue his hot pitching when he takes on the Rangers. Miley has been outstanding in three consecutive outings where he has allowed three runs on 16 hits and six BB in 21.2 frames.

The Texas Rangers got themselves back in the American League West race with seven straight wins and are looking to go on another run after Friday’s victory. Starter Yovani Gallardo led the way with a pair of runs plated (one earned) through six frames with Ross Ohlendorf allowing two more in an inning. The Rangers pounded Boston pitching for12 hits and three walks with Josh Hamilton smacking two long balls and scoring twice with Robinson Chirinos driving in two more. Rookie Chi Chi Rodriguez makes his major league debut against the Red Sox on Saturday. Rodriguez is being called up from Triple-A Round Rock where he was 3-5 with a 4.15 ERA.
At this point I don’t know what the trends mean for either team as the Rangers are exceeding expectations and the Red Sox look over rated. I don’t know if Texas continues to surprise and Boston keeps disappointing but my feeling is this is a game that Boston seems to have an edge although I can’t bet them…
