The Miami Marlins shoot for another victory versus the visiting Chicago Cubs in Wednesday action.
The Chicago Cubs are also a surprise team as they sit several games behind St Louis for second the National League Central lead. The Cubs saw their modest two game winning streak end in a 5-2 defeat at Miami and dropped a game in the standings as well with St Louis winning. Kyle Hendricks absorbed the loss with four runs scored on seven hits and two BB over six frames. Chicago produced eight hits and walked three times with Junior Lake and Anthony Rizzo driving in runs with Rizzo also scoring. Left hander Jon Lester takes the bump against Miami for the first time in six years. Lester is looking to rebound from a 3-0 defeat to Washington where he gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits while striking out ten in seven innings.

The Miami Marlins might have escaped the National League East basement but if they expect to go any further they need many more wins. The Marlins put a halt to a two game skid with Tuesday’s victory which they hope is the beginning of a long hot streak. Starter Brad Hand evened his record at 1-1 with both runs given up on six hits and a pair of walks with three relievers putting up zeros. The Fish totaled eight hits and walked twice with Giancarlo Stanton going deep while Marcell Ozuna went 2-4 with three RBI’s and a run. The Marlins turn to veteran Dan Haren to control the dangerous Cubs on Wednesday. Haren comes off a 4-3 victory at Citi Field where he allowed two runs on a pair of long balls over seven frames.
The under is 8-2 in Chicago’s last 10 Wednesday games while the Cubs are 7-3 in their last 10 Wednesday games. Miami are 2-10 in their last 12 home games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 overall and 7-2 in Miami’s last 9 on grass. The over is 6-2-3 in the last 11 meetings and the Cubs are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Miami. Most will give the nod to the Cubs with Lester but if I were getting involved I’d be on the plus odds…
