The San Francisco Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Wednesday in San Francisco for game three of their MLB series,
The San Francisco Giants appear to have cooled off from their red-hot streak as they lost to the Pirates for the second night in a row. Hunter Pence had three hits, Brandon Crawford had two hits, and Buster Posey had a hit as the Giants scored four runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Christopher Heston allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out sox over 3.2 innings to take the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Giants start Tim Hudson who has allowed 66 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 30 over 62.1 innings for a 3-4 record and a 4.62 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates continue to make themselves relevant in the NL postseason race as they beat the Giants on Tuesday for the second night in a row. Jordy Mercer hit a home run, Andrew MCCutchen had four hits, and Neil Walker and Pedro Alvarez added two hits each as the Pirates scored seven runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher A.J. Burnett allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out five over 5.0 innings to get the win and go to 6-1 for the season and Mark Melancon earned his 15th save. For Wednesday’s game the Pirates start Francisco Liriano who has allowed 41 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 75 over 59.2 innings for a 2-4 record and a 3.47 ERA.
San Francisco is 9-1 as a home underdog, 13-6 in their last 19 games, and 2-6 in Hudson’s last eight home starts against a team with a winning record. Pittsburgh is 8-0 in their last eight games as a favorite, 10-2 in their last 12 games, and 1-5 in Liriano’s last six starts. Pittsburgh is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
This should be a tight one but I expect Hudson to get the best of it as he has been the better pitcher of the two of late and the Giants hit the ball on Tuesday, they just weren’t able to produce runs but I see them getting more in this one.
