The Houston Astros visit the Rogers Center to face the Toronto Blue Jays in Friday action.
I know very few people thought the Houston Astros would be leading the American League West at this point in the season but they are and show no signs of going away. The Astros had their chance to post a four game sweep of visiting Baltimore on Thursday but didn’t get the big hit with runners on. Starter Dallas Keuchel did not get a decision with two runs allowed on six hits while striking out seven over six frames. The Stros mustered five hits and walked four times with Hank Conger smacking his third homer while Luis Valbuena scored Evan Gattis with a sacrifice fly.Roberto Hernandez draws the series opening start at the Rogers Center on Friday. Hernandez has struggled the past two times out with a combined eleven earned runs allowed on 17 hits in 10.2 innings.

The Toronto Blue Jays can be a streaky team and right now a hot streak would be just what the doctor ordered. Perhaps one is in the making after an 8-0 victory at Washington on Wednesday gave the team back to back wins. Both the bats and pitching were outstanding with starter Mark Buehrle tossing a complete game six hitter to up his record to 7-4. The Jays pounded out 13 hits and walked once with Jose Bautista going deep with a pair of RBI’s and two runs while Jose Reyes went 3-4 and two runs knocked in while Ryan Goins scored twice and drove in a run. Aaron Sanchez draws Friday’s start where he faces the Blue Jays for the first time in his career. Sanchez has tossed three straight quality games with seven runs given up on 20 hits and eight walks over 20 frames.
Houston are 18-5 in their last 23 games as an underdog and 3-10 in their last 13 games on astroturf. Toronto are 5-17 in their last 22 Friday games and the under is 12-4 in their last 16 games as a favorite while the over is 6-2 in the Blue Jays last 8 Friday games. The over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. If Sanchez has control issues the Astros should take advantage so the best I can offer right now is the over…
