The New York Mets look to widen their lead in the NL East with a win versus the San Francisco Giants.
The San Francisco Giants are trying to heat up and chase down the Dodgers in the National League West and did just that with a 5-0 win at Citi Field. The story of the game was Christopher Heston who tossed a no hitter with eleven strikeouts hit three batters to spoil a perfect game. The Giants offense came through with 13 hits and a pair of free passes with Heston driving in two runs while Joe Panik and Matt Duffy smacking long balls. Veteran Tim Hudson opposes the Mets for the first time on the season. Hudson threw the ball well in a 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh with two runs allowed on seven hits over seven frames.

The New York Mets might be sitting atop the National League East but they haven’t been playing well. The Mets have now lost seven of eleven as their bats couldn’t touch Christopher Heston and their pitching simply wasn’t good enough. Starter Noah Snydergaard fell to 2-4 with four runs plated on ten hits and a base on balls through six innings of work. The New York offense did nothing as they were no hit and did not walk but had three hit batters with just one player reaching second base. Ace Matt Harvey is charged with controlling the dangerous San Francisco offense Wednesday. Harvey comes off of a 6-2 victory at Arizona where he gave up both runs on solo bombs while whiffing nine in seven frames.
The over is 12-3-2 in San Francisco’s last 17 overall and is 12-3-2 in their last 17 on grass while the Giants are 7-2 in their last 9 games as an underdog. New York are 41-13 in their last 54 games as a favorite and are 23-8 in their last 31 home games while the over is 10-4-1 in the Mets last 15 overall. San Francisco are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and the over is 9-4-1 in the last 14 meetings. Every time I back Harvey he loses and given that the Mets really aren’t good now I’ll sit this out…
