The Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Friday afternoon at Wrigley field for game two of their series.
The Chicago Cubs returned home and got their series with the Reds off on a winning note downing Cincinnati on Thursday. Dexter Fowler and Miguel Montero each hit home runs and Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo each had hits as the Cubs scored six runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada allowed four hits and three runs and struck out four lasting just 3.0 innings to not get a decision as Travis Wood got the win and Hector Rondon earned his 11th save. For Friday’s game the Cubs start Jason Hammel who has allowed 58 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 76 over 75 innings for a 5-2 record and a 2.76 ERA.

The Cincinnati Reds fell behind early on Thursday and never caught up as they lost in Chicago. Christopher Dominguez hit a home run and Joey Votto and Ivan De Jesus each had hits as the Reds scored three runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen allowed five hits and six runs, five earned, while striking out six over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-2 for the season. For Friday’s game the Reds start Johnny Cueto who has allowed 60 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 73 over 78.1 innings for a 4-4 record and a 2.64 ERA.
Chicago is 6-1 as a favorite, 7-2 in game two of a series, and 2-8 in Hammel’s last 10 starts against a team with a losing record. Cincinnati is 24-51 as an underdog, 18-49 in their last 67 road games, and 2-5 in Cueto’s last seven road starts. Cincinnati is 0-5 in their last five games against Chicago.
Cueto is one of the best on the game when he is healthy and he is also in a contract year making him a very strong play here.
