The Pittsburgh Pirates shoot for the sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies at PNC Park.
The Philadelphia Phillies are hopeful of escaping the National League East basement but with their 4-3 defeat Saturday they have dropped seven of eleven. Sean O’Sullivan’s early struggles were costly with all four runs plated on eight hits and four free passes over six frames to fall to 1-5. The Phils mustered nine hits and walked once with Freddy Galvis going 2-4 with an RBI while Maikel Franco posted two hits and scored. Left hander Cole Hamels looks to get back in the win column versus the Pirates at PNC Park. Hamels is coming off one of his worse starts of the season in a 6-4 loss at Cincinnati where he gave up five runs on eight hits.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are in need of wins as they chase the Cardinals and Cubs in the National League Central. The Pirates have been doing their part with three straight wins after downing Philadelphia 4-3 Saturday. Starter Gerrit Cole was outstanding with two runs allowed (one earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts through six innings to up his record to 10-2. The Buccos posted eight hits and walked four times with Andrew McCutchen driving in a pair while Starling Marte went 3-4 with an RBI and run. AJ Burnett opposes Philadelphia for the second time on the season on Sunday afternoon. Burnett was a tough luck 2-0 loser versus Milwaukee with a single run plated on five hits over seven frames.
Philadelphia are 3-13 in their last 16 games as an underdog while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 overall and is 8-2 in their last 10 on grass. Pittsburgh are 13-3 in their last 16 games as a favorite and are 8-2 in their last 10 home games while going 15-5 in their last 20 overall. Philadelphia are 3-9 in the last 12 meetings. Not much to say as I don’t have confidence in the Phillies but if they are going to win one this will be it but I doubt it…
