The Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox conclude their interleague series at Turner Field.
The Boston Red Sox really need a few hot streaks to get themselves back in the American League East conversation. The Red Sox were looking for consecutive wins Wednesday but fell at Atlanta 5-2 with the pen faltering. Joe Kelly gave up two runs on five hits and three free passes over five innings before Junichi Tazawa gave up two and Craig Breslow one. Boston totaled eight hits and walked twice with Mike Napoli slamming a solo jack while Kelly knocked in Hanley Ramirez. Clay Buchholz gets the ball in the final game of the series at Atlanta on Thursday. Buchholz has struggled the past two times out with eight runs plated on 18 hits over 10.2 frames.

The Atlanta Braves can not string the wins together and they will not make a run at the top of the National League East without a hot streak. The Braves used great work on the mound and some late offense to upend visiting Boston and earn their second win in three games. Starter Alex Wood was charged with two runs (one earned) on five hits through six frames for a no decision. The Bravos were solid at the plate with ten hits and six walks with Pedro Ciriaco going 3-4 with a pair of RBI’s while Nick Markakis knocked in a run and scored twice. The Braves go with Shelby Miller on the hill against the visiting Red Sox on Thursday. Miller is coming off of a 5-3 victory versus the Mets with all three runs allowed on eight hits in 6.1 innings.
Boston are 1-10 in their last 11 road games and are 1-7 in their last 8 overall while going 1-7 in their last 8 games on grass. The over is 6-1-2 in Atlanta’s last 9 Thursday games and is 21-8-2 in their last 31 home games while the over is 38-18-3 in the Braves last 59 on grass. Boston are 20-7 in the last 27 meetings. The Red Sox won’t lose every game but I’m hoping they lose this one…
