The Colorado Rockies and the Houston Astros face off on Thursday at Coors Field as they close out their MLB interleague series.
The Colorado Rockies fell behind early on Wednesday and never caught up as they lost to the Astros in the first of two home games in their series with the Astros. Carlos Gonzalez hit a home run and Troy Tulowitzki, Charlie Blackmon, and Nolan Arenado each had two hits as the Rockies socred four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick allowed seven hits and four runs lasting just 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Christian Friedrich took the loss. For Thursday’s game the Rockies start David Hale who has allowed 25 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 19 over 25.2 innings for a 2-1 record and a 4.56 ERA.

The Houston Astros have come out of their slump and won their fourth game in a row on Wednesday. Carlos Correa, Preston Tucker, Chris Carter, and Jake Marisnick each hit home runs as the Astros scored eight runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Brett Oberholtzer allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.1 innings to get the win. For Thursday’s game the Astros start Collin McHugh who has allowed 90 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 62 over 79.2 innings for a 6-3 record and a 5.08 ERA.
Colorado is 4-1 in Thursday games, 9-22 in their last 31 interleague home games, and 1-7 in their last eight games. Houston is 9-1 against the NL West, 16-35 in their last 51 Thursday games, and 8-3 in McHugh’s last 11 starts as a favorite. Houston has won their last five games against Colorado.
The Astros are rolling but McHugh has been hit hard of late and that’s bad news in Colorado so my play here is the Rockies.
