Chase Field and the Arizona Diamondbacks host the rival San Diego Padres on Friday night.
The San Diego Padres have fallen from radar the past few weeks and is leaving them with a hole to climb out of. The Padres picked up a 3-1 win at Oakland Thursday but have still dropped seven of eleven. Starter Ian Kennedy provided the spark with the only run plated on four hits over six frames to improve to 4-5. San Diego mustered seven hits and walked twice with Derek Norris and Matt Kemp slamming solo homers while Justin Upton’s sacrifice fly scored Melvin Upton Jr. James Shields gets the ball in the series opener at Chase Field on Friday. Shields did not receive a decision in a 4-2 loss to the Dodgers last time out with a homerun allowed over seven frames.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are playing some of their best baseball of the season and it has to continue if they expect to challenge in the National League West. The Diamondbacks had won five of six before absorbing a 7-1 loss at the hands of the visiting Angels. Starter Allen Webster was charged six runs on five hits and five walks including a pair of bombs through 5.1 frames. The bats never got going on eight hits with Nick Ahmed going 2-3 and knocking in David Peralta who had two hits. The Diamondbacks go with Rubby De La Rosa on the bump for his third meeting with the Padres. De La Rosa comes one of his best efforts in a 4-0 win at San Francisco with eight scoreless innings.
The over is 16-4-1 in San Diego’s last 21 overall and is 16-4-1 in their last 21 on grass while the Padres are 9-4 in their last 13 Friday games. Arizona are 6-2 in De La Rosa’s last 8 starts and are 6-2 in De La Rosa’s last 8 starts on grass. The over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Arizona and is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. I think the majority will be on the Padres but De La Rosa has done well in this match up so far…
