The Detroit Tigers head to the Big Apple to begin a series with the New York Yankees.
The Detroit Tigers are hoping to get hot and make a run at Kansas City in the American League Central. The Tigers are coming off an extra day off because of a rainout which might be a good thing as they have dropped back to back contests after a grand slam in the 13th beat them 8-4 at Cincinnati on Wednesday. David Price gave up two runs over five innings before Ian Krol and Joakim Soria allowed two runs each in the 13th. The bats never got going on six hits and three free passes that saw Miguel Cabrera smack a three run homer while Tyler Collins went solo. Alfredo Simon toes the rubber Friday for the second time against the Yankees. Simon has be fantastic in winning consecutive contests where he has allowed one earned run on eight hits and three BB over 13 innings.

The New York Yankees are battling to hold on to second in the American League East while a few teams are heating up and they have slowed. The Yankees might be on the verge of righting the ship with the offense igniting a 9-4 victory versus the Marlins for back to back wins. Veteran CC Sabathia turned back the clock for a day with three runs scored on five hits while striking out seven in six frames. The Yanks racked up 15 hits and walked six times with Carlos Beltran and Brett Gardner going deep and driving in two each. Brian McCann went 3-4 with an RBI and run with every starter but one hitting safely. The Yankees are scheduled to start Adam Warren in the series opener versus Detroit. Warren struggle through 4.2 innings at Baltimore where he gave up three runs on six hits and a trio of BB in a 5-3 win.
Detroit are 2-6 in the last 8 road games. The Yankees are 8-1 in their last 9 home games and are 7-2 in Warren’s last 9 starts on grass while going 8-3 in Warren’s last 11 starts. The under is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings and Detroit are 18-37 in the last 55 meetings in New York. The Yankees have enjoyed great success against Detroit and I hope it continues and I like them even if Verlander starts...
