The surging Oakland Athletics shoot for another win when the Los Angeles Angels come to town.
The Los Angeles Angels have yet to display the form that allowed them to win the American League West a year ago. The Angels took a step in the right direction with Thursday’s 7-1 victory at Chase Field behind strong pitching and hitting. Veteran CJ Wilson made short work of Arizona with a run scored on eight hits while striking out nine over eight innings. The Angels did their damage on seven hits and seven walks with Johnny Giavotella and Taylor Featherstone smacking solo bombs while Efren Navarro and Carlos Perez driving in two runs each. Matt Shoemaker makes his 4th start of the year against the Athletics on Friday night. Shoemaker is looking to bounce back from an 8-1 loss to the A’s where he gave up four runs (three earned) on six hits over 5.2 frames.

The offense failed to support starter Kendall Graveman who served up two solo jacks through seven frames with Fernando Rodriguez allowing a run in 2/3 of an inning. The A’s were stymied on five hits and a base on balls with Josh Phegley providing the only spark with his third homer. Ace Sonny Gray toes the rubber in the first game of the series with the visiting Angels. Gray defeated the Angels last time out by an 8-1 count with an unearned run allowed on five hits while whiffing nine in 7.2 innings.
The Angels are 2-7 in their last 9 road games and are 3-8 in their last 11 games on grass while the under is 7-3-1 in LAA last 11 Friday games. The over is 7-2-2 in Oakland’s last 11 Friday games and is 20-8 in their last 28 home games while going 8-3 in Gray’s last 11 home starts. The Athletics are 6-2 in Gray’s last 8 starts vs. the Angels. Shoemaker is no slouch but Gray has been exceptional…
