The Cincinnati Reds and Great American Ball Park host the Miami Marlins in Saturday action.
The Miami Marlins appeared to be poised to make a run a week ago and need to rack up some wins to get back in the National League East conversation. The run will have to wait another day to begin after Friday’s 5-0 loss at Cincinnati has the team staring at a three game skid. Dan Haren gave up two runs on four hits and two bases on balls over 6.1 frames to fall to 6-4 with Brad Hand allowing three runs without recording an out. The Fish never got going at the plate with four runs and a trio of walks with Marcell Ozuna going 2-3 with a walk. Tom Koehler gets the start in game two of their series with the Cincinnati Reds. Koehler was outstanding in a 2-1 win versus the Yankees last time out with a homer allowed in seven frames.

The Cincinnati Reds are still searching for that elusive hot streak that will lift them past the .500 mark and in to a position to make a run in the National League Central. Perhaps that hot run is beginning with Friday’s win giving the Reds three straight victories. Starter Mike Leake was at his best with two hits and seven strikeouts through seven innings to even his record at 4-4. The Reds totaled nine hits and walked three times with Marlon Byrd going solo while Jay Bruce doubled in a pair.Cincinnati goes with Anthony DeSclafani who opposes the Marlins for the first time in his career. DeSclafani did not get a decision in a 2-1 loss to the Cubs with a run plated on six hits over 6.1 innings.
The under is 7-2-1 in Miami’s last 10 overall and the over is 6-2-1 in their last 9 Saturday games while the Marlins are 6-2 in their last 8 Saturday games. The over is 7-1 in Cincinnati last 8 vs. National League East and the over is 7-2 in their last 9 home games while going 6-2 in the Reds last 8 Saturday games. Miami are 3-9 in the last 12 meetings. I’m not sure I have a read on DeSclafani but I’ll give him a shot here…
