The Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros face off on Saturday at Safeco Field in game two of their MLB American League West series.
The Seattle Mariners got the lead early on Friday and never trailed as they beat the first place Astros. Robinson Cano had three hits, Nelson Cruz had two hits, and Mark Trumbo had a hit and three RBI’s as the Mariners scored five runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Roenis Elias allowed four hits and two runs while striking out 10 over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 4-4 for the season and Carson Smith earned his fourth save. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start Taijuan Walker who has allowed 78 hits and 40 earned runs while striking out 66 over 72 innings for a 4-6 record and a 5.00 ERA.

The Houston Astros scored a run in the fist inning but their lead was short lived as they lost in Seattle. George Springer and Marwin Gonzalez each hit home runs and Chris Carter had a hit as the Astros scored two runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Lance McCullers allowed six hits and five runs while striking six over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-2 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Astros start Dallas Keuchel who has allowed 70 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 76 over 101.1 innings for a 8-2 record and a 2.04 ERA.
Seattle is 5-1 as an underdog, 7-3 in game two of a series, and 2-5 in Walker’s last seven home starts. Houston is 5-2 in their last seven games, 2-6 following a loss, and 16-5 in Keuchel’s last 21 starts. Houston is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings of these two.
The Astros have been streaky and even coming off of the loss I have to believe Keuchel leads them to a win here.
