The Seattle Mariners continue to struggle at the plate as they couldn’t muster much offense losing to the Royals on Monday. Robinson Cano hit a home run and Austin Jackson had a hit and Logan Morrison had a walk as the Mariners scored one run on two hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out five over 6.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 10-4 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Mariners start Mike Montgomery who has allowed 22 hits and eight earned runs while striking out 12 over 26.1 innings for a 1-2 record and a 2.73 ERA.

The Kansas City Royals held their lead in the American League Central as they beat the Mariners on Monday. Alcides Escobar had three hits, Mike Moustakas had two hits, and Kendrys Morales had a hit as the Royals scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Joe Blanton allowed two hits anda run while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 2-0 for the season and Greg Holland earned his 14th save. For Tuesday’s game the Royals start Jeremy Guthrie who has allowed 86 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 33 over 71.1 innings for a 5-4 record and 5.55 ERA.
