The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians meet in game three of their series at Progressive Field.
The Detroit Tigers are not accustomed to being in third in the American League Central this ‘late’ in the year. The Tigers were dominant in Tuesday’s 7-3 win at Progressive Field where everything went their way. David Price allowed just a run on nine hits while whiffing seven over 6.2 frames to get the win with Alex Wilson allowing a pair of 8th inning runs. The offense did their damage on nine hits and three BB with Andrew Romine going deep and scoring twice while Nick Castellanos and Yoenis Cespedes knocked in two runs each. Justin Verlander makes his third start of the season since coming off the disabled list. Verlander was hit hard in a 7-2 loss at New York last time out with six runs scored on ten hits including three homers in 6.2 innings.

The Cleveland Indians are at the point in the season where they have to get over the hump I call .500. The .500 mark got further away with Tuesday’s defeat that left the Indians with losses in four of five. Starter Danny Salazar didn’t have his good stuff with all seven runs allowed (six earned) on six hits and a trio of free passes through 4.1 innings while striking out eight. The Tribe received 12 hits from their offense With Jason Kipnis going 4-5 with an RBI while Francisco Lindor connected on a sacrifice fly. Carlos Carrasco gets the ball Wednesday for his third start of the season versus Detroit. Carrasco took a 4-1 defeat in his last outing where he gave up three runs on ten hits with a pair of long balls over 6.2 frames.
The over is 10-1 in Detroit’s last 11 games as an underdog and is 8-3-1 in Verlander’s last 12 Wednesday starts. Cleveland are 3-8 in their last 11 games as a favorite and are 10-4 in their last 14 Wednesday games while the Indians are 3-7 in their last 10 home games. The over is 8-1 in Carrasco’s last 9 starts vs. Detroit while the Tigers are 21-6 in the last 27 meetings in Cleveland. The trends favor the over as it seems runs are scored whenever these teams meet…
