The San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres face off on Wednesday at AT&T Park as they continue their MLB series of National League West teams.
The San Francisco Giants squandered an epic pitching performance as they blew a lae lead and lost I extra innings to the Padres. Gregor Blanco had two hits and Angel Pagan and Brandon Belt each had hits as the Giants scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner allowed five hits and two runs while striking out 14 over 7.1 innings to not get a decision as Hunter Strickland took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Giants start Ryan Vogelsong who allowed 70 hits and 36 earned runs while striking out 55 over 74 innings for a 5-5 record and a 4.38 ERA.

The San Diego Padres did all of their scoring late but it was enough to get the job done as they won in San Francisco on Tuesday. Will Middlebrooks had two hits and Alexi Amarista and Yonder Alonso each had hits as the Padres scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne allowed five hits and two runs while striking out two over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Brandon Mauer got the win to go to 5-0 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 18th save. For Wednesday’s game the Padres start Ian Kennedy who has allowed 66 hits and 38 earned runs while striking out 59 over 63 innings for a 4-5 record and a 4.53 ERA.
San Francisco is 15-3 in game two of a series, 2-8 against the NL West, and 4-9 in Vogelsong’s last 13 starts against the National League West. San Diego is 6-2 in game two of a series, 0-6 following a win, and 2-6 in Kennedy’s last eight starts against a team with a winning record. San Diego is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
I don’t expect much scoring here and my free pick for this one is the under. I also have a pick on the winning team and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
