The Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox face off on Saturday at Tropicana Field for game two of their series on American League East teams.
The Tampa Bay Rays battled back to catch the Red Sox on Friday but they let the game slip away as they lost in extra innings. Asdrubal Cabrera and Logan Forsythe each had three hits an Evan Logoria had two hits as the Rays scored three runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Alex Colome allowed four hits and three runs while striking out two over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Steven Geltz took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Rays start Matt Andriese who has allowed 40 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 22 over 35.2 innings for a 2-2 record and a 3.79 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox appeared to have blown their game against the Rays on Friday but they got the win scoring the only run in the 10th inning. David Ortiz had two hits and Xander Bogaerts and Pablo Sandoval had hits as the Red Sox scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Alexi Ogando got the win and Koji Uehara earned the save. For Saturday’s game the Red Sox start Wade Miley who has allowed 82 hits and 39 earned runs while striking out 52 over 78 innings for a 7-6 record and a 4.50 ERA.
Tampa Bay is 7-1 in game two of a series, 9-5 in their last 14 games, and 3-8 at home against a team with a losing record. Boston is 6-11 in their last 17 games, 5-12 in their last 17 road games, and 6-2 in Miley’s last eight starts. Boston is 5-9 in their last 14 games at Tampa Bay.
The Rays have dominated the Red Sox over the years and while Friday was a bust for them I expect them to bounce back here for the win.
