The Washington Nationals take the field for game one of a doubleheader with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Washington Nationals were supposed to be the top team in the National League East but only time will tell if they are able to meet those expectations. If the Nationals can stay relatively healthy they certainly have the talent on paper to win the division and beyond. The Nats have one of the best rotations in the game today and can win with just their pitching. The offense might not be as potent as some teams but when they are swinging the bats the runs do pile up and when both the arms and bats are on the same page this team is difficult to contend with. Washington turns to Stephen Strasburg for game one of their twin bill at Philadelphia. Strasburg came off the disabled list to defeat Atlanta 3-1 with a four hit shutout over five innings to get the win.

The Philadelphia Phillies have risen up when least expected to bite a few could teams but the good times haven’t lasted nearly long enough. As a Phillies fan we have been told that the veterans on the team had another year or two in them but the reality is their best years were well behind them and now we have pitching that looks like the Frankenstein Monster; pieced together from various pickups and trades with the hope that things work. They haven’t and the minors isn’t loaded with major league talent and now we have no manager because the management didn’t inform him that Chase Utley was placed on the DL with a bum ankle if he is hurt. The bottom line is we need talent through FA but we are years away from being competitive.Kevin Correia draws the start in game one of the doubleheader against the visiting Nationals. Correia did not get a decision in an 11-8 win at the Yankees with five runs allowed on eight hits over four frames.
The over is 6-1-1 in Washington’s last 8 road games while they are 21-6 in their last 27 Sunday games and 27-11 in their last 38 games as a favorite. The over is 11-1 in Philadelphia’s last 12 home games while the Phillies are 8-22 in their last 30 Sunday games and are 3-7 in their last 10 home games. Sometimes the Nats are just an auto bet when they get hot and right now is one of those times but I hope I’m wrong…
