The St Louis Cardinals look for the series sweep of the visiting Chicago Cubs on Sunday Night Baseball.
The Chicago Cubs have been slowing down the past week and that’s not good news with the Cardinals threatening to pull away in the National League Central. The Cubs struggled in most areas with Donn Roach allowing four runs on eight hits in 3.1 frames with Travis Wood giving up four runs on four hits over 2.2 innings. That was too much for the Cubbies seven hit, four walk attack to overcome with Roach singling in Starlin Castro with the Cubbies only run. Jason Hammel hopes to continue an outstanding season when he face the Cardinals on Sunday. Hammel was in top form in a 1-0 victory versus the Dodgers with a two hit shutout over 7.2 frames.

The St Louis Cardinals continue to win games as they look for separation in the National League Central. The surging Cardinals have now won eight of eleven after great efforts on the mound and plate Saturday. Starter Michael Wacha was strong with the lone run plated on six hits over six innings while the Redbirds pounded out 13 hits and walked six times. Xavier Scruggs drove in two and scored three with Kolten Wong and Matt Carpenter knocked in two apiece while Jason Heyward scored twice. Carlos Martinez is on the mound in the series finale’ against the Cubs who he will face for the second time. Martinez looks to build on a 4-3 win at Miami where he allowed all three runs on eight hits while whiffing nine over seven innings.
The under is 6-1-3 in the Cubs last 10 Sunday games. St Louis are 42-10 in their last 52 home games and are 17-5 in their last 22 Sunday games while the Cardinals are 39-12 in their last 51 games as a favorite. Chicago are 8-21 in the last 29 meetings in St Louis. Hammel is the best the Cubs have but I’m going with the first place squad at a great price…
