Petco Park and the San Diego Padres host the Seattle Mariners in the opener of their interleague series.
The Seattle Mariners have made some changes over the last few years but the results have not been positive. The Mariners are struggling right now with defeats in five of seven following a 3-2 road loss to the Angels. Even Felix Hernandez couldn’t save the M’s although he tried with a one hit, eight strikeout performance over six frames. Charle Furbush blew the save and Tom Wilhelmsen took the loss. The Mariners posted five hits and walked twice with Kyle Seager leaving the yard while Nelson Cruz doubled in Franklin Gutierrez. Rookie Mike Montgomery makes his first career start against San Diego on Tuesday night. Montgomery is coming off of his best outing thus far in a 7-0 win versus Kansas City where he allowed five hits and whiffed ten in a complete game effort.

The Padres mustered five hits and walked twice with Derek Norris going deep twice and driving in three while Matt Kemp was 2-4 with a solo jack. Ian Kennedy gets the ball Tuesday in his second match up with Seattle this season. Kennedy received the loss in a 6-0 decision at San Francisco as he was charged with all six runs but just one was earned.
The over is 6-1-1 in Seattle’s last 8 Tuesday games while the Mariners are 4-9 in their last 13 interleague games. The over is 7-1 in San Diego’s last 8 games following an off day and is 20-7-1 in their last 28 home games while going 21-9-1 in the Padres last 31 on grass. This might be one to avoid given the way both are playing because I am…
