The Tampa Bay Rays make the long trip to the Big Apple to face the division rival New York Yankees.
The Tampa Bay Rays were the hottest team in the American League Eat not long ago which had them in first but things have slowed dramatically with the Rays falling to third. Tampa Bay has lost nine of eleven after a 5-4, ten inning loss to Cleveland on Thursday afternoon. Matt Moore’s return from Tommy John Surgery saw four runs scored on six hits and a pair of BB over 4.2 frames with the loss going to Xavier Cedeno who served up a 10th homer. TB managed seven hits but struck out 19 times with Grady Sizemore going 2-4 with two RBI’s and a run. Chris Archer draws the game one start against the Yankees who he will see for the second time in 2015. Archer will be looking to bounce back from 5-3 loss to Boston where allowed all five runs on three homers while whiffing ten in six frames.

The New York Yankees were the top team in the American League East a few weeks ago but have slowed and fallen to second. The Yankees had dropped three in arrow before squeezing out a 3-1 win at the Angels on Wednesday night. The work on the mound by Nathan Eovaldi was the spark as the right hander allowed five hits and walked three in five scoreless innings to up his record to 8-2. The Yanks pounded out 12 hits and walked twice with Garrett Jones smacking a solo jack with Didi Gregorius scoring and knocking in a run while Chase Headley was 3-5 and an RBI. The Yankees are scheduled to send Masahiro Tanaka to the hill to open the series with visiting Tampa Bay. Tanaka has been hit hard the past two starts with 12 runs allowed on 17 hits and four BB over ten innings.
The under is 22-7-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 30 road games and is 18-7-1 in their last 26 on grass while the Rays are 7-3 in their last 10 Friday games. The over is 7-1 in New York’s last 8 Friday games and the Yankees are 12-4 in their last 16 home games while going 6-2 in Tanaka’s last 8 starts. My concern with the Yankees is I suspect something is wrong with Tanaka so be cautious…
