The Chicago Cubs look for some 4th of July fireworks against the visiting Miami Marlins.
The Miami Marlins are in need of a long hot streak just to track down third place Atlanta in the National League East. The Marlins might be on their way to something big after Friday’s 2-1 win at Chicago for their 5th win in six games. Tom Koehler didn’t get much help but he didn’t need much with the lone run plated on five hits over six frames to up his record to 7-4. The Fish totaled five hits and walked four times with Christian Yelich going solo while Justin Bour connected on his 10th bomb.Jarred Cosart draws the start in game two of their series at Wrigley Field on Saturday. Cossart did not receive a decision in a 5-4 win at Los Angeles where he allowed all four runs on five hits in 5.1 frames.

The Chicago Cubs have dropped to third in the National League Central and are looking to move up to second. The Cubs saw their three game winning streak end with Friday’s defeat as the offense never got going. Starter Jason Hammel threw the ball well with a pair of solo jacks surrendered through seven frames to fall to 5-4. The offense mustered six hits and a pair of bases on balls with Miguel Montero rapping an RBI single that plated Kris Bryant who had doubled. Donn Roach takes the mound for his third career start when he opposes visiting Miami. Roach dropped an 8-1 decision to the Cardinals in his only 2015 start with four runs scored on eight hits over 3.1 innings.
Miami are 1-7 in their last 8 road games and are 8-20 in their last 28 games as an underdog while the under is 9-4-2 in their last 15 games as an underdog. The under is 9-2-1 in Chicago’s last 12 overall and is 9-2-1 in the Cubs last 12 on grass while going 44-21-4 in their last 69 home games. The over is 7-3-3 in the last 13 meetings. I’d describe this one as not very pretty from a pitching perspective so flip a coin…
