The Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners face off on Saturday in Oakland in game three of the MLB series of American League West teams.
The Oakland A’s got out to an early lead on Friday but they couldn’t make it hold up as they lost game one to the Mariners. Billy Burns, Brett Lawrie, and Josh Reddick had two hits each as the Athletics scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jesse Chavez allowed nine hits and four runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings to take the loss to fall to 4-8 for the season. For Saturday’s game the A’s start Kendall Graveman who has allowed 74 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 44 over 70 innings for a 5-4 record and a 3.47 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners shrugged off an early deficit on Friday and whipped the A’s in Oakland. Robinson Cano had three hits and Logan Morrison, Nelson Cruz, Seth Smith, and Brad Miller each hit home runs as the Mariners scored nine runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher J.A. Happ allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-5 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Mariners start Felix Hernandez who has allowed 75 hits and 35 earned runs while striking out 100 over 103.1 innings for a 10-4 record and a 3.05 ERA.
Oakland is 16-38 as an underdog, 7-20 at home against a team with a losing road record, and 6-2 in Graveman’s last eight starts as an underdog. Seattle is 5-1 against a right-handed starter, 0-4 as a road favorite, and 8-3 in Hernandez’s last 11 road starts. Seattle is 6-1 in their last seven games in Oakland.
Felix Hernandez has had some rough starts this year but he has also been on top of his game and I look for him to be sharp enough to get the win.
