The Houston Astros welcome the Cleveland Indians to Minute Maid Park on Monday night.
The Huoston Astros are still leading the American League West but have to be careful with the Angels waiting in the wings. The Astros fell to Boston 5-4 for back to back defeats for consecutive defeats following a 5-4 loss at Boston on Sunday. Starter Lance McCullers allowed one run on seven hits over five frames with Will Harris giving up a pair of unearned runs before Tony Sipp gave up two runs to blow the save and take the loss. The Stros did their damage on nine hits and five walks with Carlos Correa going deep and driving in two while Evan Gattis connected on his 14th bomb of the year. Left hander Dallas Keuchel gets Monday’s start for his second of the year against Houston. Keuchel has been red hot with back to back shutouts with 13 hits and 19 strikeouts over 17 innings.

The Cleveland Indians have been getting both their arms and bats on the same page and that needs to continue if they want to make a run in the American League Central. After winning five in a row the Indians have dropped back to back contests with a 5-3 loss at Pittsburgh. Starter Danny Salazar was charged with all five runs on seven hits through 4.2 innings. The Tribe could not keep up on their five hit one walk attack that saw Michael Brantley, Geovanny Urshela and Michael Bourn drive in runs. Carlos Carrasco gets the call to the hill for the second time against the Astros on Monday. Carrasco has won consecutive contests with three runs scored on six hits and 20 K’s over 16.2 frames.
The under is 6-1-1 in Houston’s last 8 Monday games and the Astros are 5-12 in their last 17 road games while the under is 7-2 in Keuchel’s last 9 on grass. Cleveland are 3-13 in their last 16 Monday games and the over is 9-3 in Carrasco’s last 12 starts on grass while the Indians are 6-2 in Carrasco’s last 8 starts. Houston are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings in Cleveland and the under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Cleveland. The trends point to the under and I’ll go with that for now…
