The Baltimore Orioles had plenty of scoring chances on Tuesday but they couldn’t convert on enough as they lost to the Twins. Manny Machado and Adam Jones hit home runs and Matt Wieters added three hits as the Orioles scored two runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Wei-Yin Chen has allowed four hits and two runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Tommy Hunter took the loss to fall to 2-2 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Orioles start Kevin Gausman who has allowed 19 hits and eight runs while striking out 21 over 23.1 innings for a 1-0 record and a 3.09 ERA.
Minnesota is 11-4 against the AL East, 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games, and 1-4 in Gibson’s last five home starts. Baltimore is 9-3 as an underdog, 2-6 in their last eight games, and 4-1 in Gausman’s last five road starts against a team with a winning record.
Gausman has always been one of those guys with a lot of “potential” but along the way we have seen flashes of solid pitching and we should see that here as the O’s even the series.
