The San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets face off on Tuesday at AT&T Park for game two of their MLB series.
The San Francisco Giants couldn’t get the bat on the ball on Monday and eventually lost to the Mets. Joaquin Arias had two hits, Christopher Heston had a hit, and Buster Posey grounded out with a bases loaded and two outs to end the Giants best scoring chance as they failed to score on three hits. On the mound Heston allowed three hits and struck out two over 7.1 scoreless innings to not get a decision as Sergio Romo took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Giants start matt Cain who allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out two to take the loss in his first start in a year when he faced the Marlins.

The New York Mets didn’t convert on most of their chances on Monday but they converted in the ninth inning to get the win. Johnny Monell had a hit and two RBI’s, Michael Cuddyer had two hits, and Wilmer Flores had a hit as the Mets scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jon Niese allowed three hits and struck out four over 8.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 4-8 for the season and Jeurys Famillia earned his 23rd save. For Tuesday’s game the Mets start Bartolo Colon who has allowed 108 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 79 over 99 innings for a 9-6 record and a 4.55 ERA.
San Francisco is 17-5 in game two of a series, 9-4 at home against a team with a winning record, and 3-10 in Cain’s last 13 home starts. New York is 9-22 in their last 31 road games, 7-20 as a road underdog, and 1-4 in Colon’s last five road starts. New York is 3-9 in their last 12 meetings with San Francisco.
Cain looked good initially in Miami until he was hit hard and with Colon we could see an epic performance and it could be batting practice but the Mets are playing well this road trip and the Giants are free falling.
