The Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins continue their series at Target Field on Friday.
The Detroit Tigers are third in the American League Central and would love to go in to the All Star break with a few wins. The Tigers could be heading in that direction with wins in three of four after a 4-2 win at Target Field on Thursday. Ace David Price was superb with two unearned runs given up on five hits and three free passes over eight innings to up his record to 9-2. The offense totaled nine hits with Ian Kinsler leaving the yard with three RBI’s and a pair of runs while Yoenis Cespedes drove in a run and Anthony Gose scored twice. Justin Verlander will be looking to reverse his fortunes when he toes the rubber at Target Field Friday. Verlander suffered through a 10-5 loss to Toronto with seven runs scored on seven hits including two homers in five frames.

The Minnesota Twins had stumbled a bit in recent weeks but seemed to be turning things around with a three game sweep of Baltimore. The Twins never found their offense in Thursday’s loss to the Tigers and needed to give starter Mike Pelfrey more help. Pelfrey was charged with all four runs on eight hits through 7.2 innings to fall to 5-6. The bats could not save the day with only six hits and three bases on balls to lean on. Trevor Plouffe singled in a run and scored while Torii Hunter drove in a run with Brian Dozier scoring. Ervin Santana makes his second trip to the mound since coming off of the disabled list. Santana did not get a decision in a 3-2 defeat at Kansas City where he gave up two runs on eight hits and three BB in 5.2 frames.
The over is 24-4 in Detroit’s last 28 overall and is 24-4 in their last 28 on grass while going 14-3 in the Tigers last 17 road games. The under is 5-1-2 in Minnesota’s last 8 overall and is 5-1-2 in their last 8 on grass while the over is 15-5-1 in the Twins last 21 games as a favorite. Detroit are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings and are 11-3 in Verlander’s last 14 starts vs. Minnesota. I think Verlander has a chance here but I’m not ready to bet him…
