The Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Friday at Safeco Field for game two of their series of American League West teams.
The Seattle Mariners have underachieved all season long but they got the best of it in game one beating the Angels on Thursday. Logan Morrison hit a home run and Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager each had three hits as the Mariners scored seven runs on 19 hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez allowed five hits and struck out six over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 11-5 for the season and Carson Smith earned his sixth save. For Friday’s game the Mariners start Mike Montgomery who has allowed 34 hits and nine runs while striking out 31 over 50 innings for a 4-2 record and a 1.62 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels have been red hot but they were cooled off on Thursday losing to the Mariners. Kole Calhoun hit a home run and Erick Aybar and C.J. Cron each had two hits as the Angels scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Garrett Richards allowed 12 hits and four runs while striking out three over 5.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 9-6 for the season. For Friday’s game the Angels start Carlos Carrasco who has allowed 77 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 91 over 101.1 innings for a 5-4 record and a 2.40 ERA.
Seattle is 6-12 in their last 18 games as a favorite, 5-1 in game two of a series, and 4-1 in Montgomery’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 5-2 in their last seven games, 1-5 in their last six games as an underdog, and 4-1 in Sanitago’s last five starts. Los Angeles is 2-6 in their last eight games in Seattle.
Both of these pitchers have been tough to hit but Montgomery has been slightly better and the Mariners are home so while it is a lean my play is Seattle.
