The San Diego Padres continue their subpar play as they lost to the Rangers on Friday.Mlevin Upton Jr. hit a home run, Matt Kemp had two hits, and Brett Wallace had a hit as the Padres scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy allowed four hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out two over 4.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-9 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Padres start James Shields who has allowed 105 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 126 over 111.1 innings for a 7-3 record and a 3.88 ERA.

Texas is 7-2 in their last nine interleague home games, 1-4 as a home favorite, and 1-7 in Lewis’ last eight home starts against a team with a losing record. San Diego is 1-6 in their last seven interleague games, 0-6 in their last six road games, and 0-6 in Shields’ last six starts. San Diego is 2-6 in their last eight games against Texas.

Shields just hasn’t been himself of late and I wouldn’t be surprised if he is dealt soon but as for this game I give the nod to the Rangers.
