The Kansas City Royals and Toronto Blue Jays look to close the first half of the season with a win.
The Toronto Blue Jays are not far out of the American League East race but they do need to turn things around with losses in seven of eleven despite Saturday’s 6-2 win at Kauffman Stadium. Mark Buehrle held the Royals in check with both runs scored on five hits over seven innings pitched to pick up the win. The offense totaled eleven hits and walked five times with Danny Valencia going deep and driving in three with Edwin Encarnacion smacking a two run bomb. Left hander Felix Doubront makes his second start of the season when he faces Kansas City on Sunday. Doubront defeated the White Sox 2-1 with the lone run allowed on six hits in 6.2 frames.

The Kansas City Royals have been surging the past week or so as they try to head in to the break with a full head of steam. The Royals hot streak was ended at six games with Saturday’s defeat with the relief pitching letting this one get away. Starter Chris Young allowed three runs on five hits through six frames before Brandon Finnegan was charged with three 9th inning runs. The KC attack was limited to five hits with Kendrrys Morales and Paulo Orlando recording RBI’s with Alex Rios and Alcides Escobar scoring. Edison Volquez draws the start against the visiting Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. Volquez picked up a 7-1 victory against Tampa Bay last time out with the only run scored on five hits and three BB in five innings.
Toronto are 2-8 in their last 10 games on grass. The over is 7-1 in Kansas City’s last 8 vs. American League East and the Royals are 19-7 in their last 26 games as a favorite while the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 Sunday games. The under is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings. No edge on the mound so I’ll take the better team in a tossup…
