The Minnesota Twins look for another win against the rival Detroit Tigers on Sunday afternoon.
The Detroit Tigers have yet to go off on a prolonged hot streak and many are wondering if they do. A 9-5 defeat at Target Field Saturday saddled the team with consecutive losses as the pitching struggled early. Alfredo Simon gave up seven runs (five earned) on ten hits in 2.1 frames with Buck Farmer allowing two over 3.1 innings. The offense totaled eleven hits with Victor Martinez going deep while James McCann knocked in two and Rajai Davis scored twice. The Tigers give Sunday’s start to Shane Greene who has not started in a month. Greene had been struggling when taken out of the rotation and is 4-6 overall with a 5.82 ERA in 13 starts.

The Minnesota Twins seem to be the one team capable of making Kansas City work in the American League Central. The Twins picked up a game in the standings with the win and the Royals losing with the offense carrying the load Saturday. Starter Phil Hughes wasn’t at his best with four runs allowed on eight hits which was still a winning effort. The Twins amassed 16 hits wit Torii Hunter going deep and driving in a pair while Aaron Hicks, Kurt Suzuki and Danny Santana driving in two runs apiece. Kyle Gibson is slated to take the hill against the Tigers for the third time on the season. Gibson has won three in a row with a combined four runs scored on 16 hits and five BB in 20.2 frames.
The over is 23-4 in Detroit’s last 27 overall and is 23-4 in their last 27 on grass while going 14-3 in the Tigers last 17 road games. The over is 16-5-1 in Minnesota’s last 22 games as a favorite and the under is 6-2-2 in their last 10 overall while going 6-2-2 in the Twins last 10 on grass. Detroit are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings. I have to go with the hotter arm and team here, right or wrong…
