Burnett each hit home runs and Neil Walker and Jung-ho Kang had two hits each as the Pirates scored six runs on 11 hits. On the mound Burnett allowed six hits and three runs while striking out six over 6.1 innings to not get the decision as Vance Worley got the win to raise his record to 3-4. For Sunday’s game the Pirates start Francisco Liriano who has allowed 74 hits and 36 earned runs while striking out 119 over 108.1 innings for a 5-6 record and a 2.99 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals scored twice in extra innings on Saturday but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Pirates. Mark Reynolds hit two home runs, Randal Grichuk had three hits, and Kolten Wong and Jhonny Peralta each had two hits as the Cardinals scored five runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher John Lackey allowed five hits and a run while striking out five over 6.2 innings to not get a decision as Nick Greenwood took the loss. For Sunday’s game the Cardinals start Tim Cooney who has allowed 14 hits and six earned runs while striking out 12 over 13.2 innings for a 3.95 ERA.
Pittsburgh is 8-2 in their last 10 games against a left-handed starter, 36-16 as a favorite, and 4-1 in Liriano’s last five starts.
