The Seattle Mariners and the Los Angeles Angels close out their MLB series on Sunday at Safeco Field.
The Seattle Mariners rode a strong pitching performance to get the win over the Angels. Nelson Cruz had three hits and Kyle Seager and Mark Trumbo had two hits each as the Mariners scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma allowed three hits and struck out six over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 1-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Mariners start Taijuan Walker who has allowed 97 hit and 49 earned runs while striking out 93 over 97.1 innings for a 7-6 record and a 4.53 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels had a chance to take over the lead in the American League West but they were unable to get it done losing in Seattle. Mike Trout, C.J. Cron, and Kole Calhoun each had hits as the Angels didn’t score on four hits. Starting pitcher C.J. Wilson allowed five hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-7 for the season. For Sundays game the Angels start Andrew Heaney who has allowed 14 hits and four runs while striking out 17 over 20.1 innings for a 2-0 record and a 1.77 ERA.
Seattle is 14-6 at home against a left-handed starter, 7-17 in their last 23 games as a favorite, and 6-0 in Walker’s last six starts. Loss Angeles is 5-1 following a loss, 10-4 in their last 14 games, and 1-5 as an underdog.
While the Angeles looked lifeless on Saturday look for the bats to wake up here, at least enough for them to get the win.
