The Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds kick off the second half of year with interleague action.
I’m not sure where the Cleveland Indians are heading in 2015 but it hasn’t been a good first half with a 42-46 record. Having said that the Indians are not completely out of the postseason picture but Kansas City is threatening to pull away in the American League Central. I will also say that a poor showing over the next few weeks could end their season from a competitive standpoint. As with many teams, consistency on the mound and at the plate has been costly and this teams needs everything on the same page to chase down Kansas City. Trevor Bauer draws start number one of the second half when he opposes Cincinnati for the second time in 2015. Bauer has some decent numbers at 8-5 with a 3.76 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP over 17 starts.

The Cincinnati Reds are always on the list of contenders in the National League Central but have struggled to prove themselves. Part of the reason is the Cardinals have been a handful year and year out and Pittsburgh has risen from the ashes following years of futility. At 39-47 the Reds once again have a tough row to hoe if they expect to make some noise in the division as they are 4th now with the Cubs trying to make the Central a three team race. The bottom line for me is I hear how the Reds have a lot of bats and some nice arms but they aren’t producing and that’s the ultimate measuring stick. Mike Leake toes the rubber in game one of their series with visiting Cleveland. Leake has suffered through a few meltdowns but has generally been more dependable then 6-5 record and 4.08 ERA says.
The under is 7-0-1 in Bauer’s last 8 road starts and is 8-2-1 in Bauer’s last 11 on grass while going 8-2-1 in Bauer’s last 11 starts overall. Cincinnati are 5-14 in their last 19 Friday games while the under is 6-2 in Leake’s last 8 Fri. starts and the Reds are 2-6 in Leake’s last 8 Friday starts. Leake is more then capable but I believe the Indians have a slight edge overall…
