The Pittsburgh Pirates look to get back in the win column at the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.

The red hot Pittsburgh Pirates have their sights set on the St Louis Cardinals and first place in the National League Central. The surging Pirates had won eight of ten before cooling off for a day in Friday’s 4-1 loss at Miller Park. Starter Charlie Morton fell to 6-3 with all four runs given up on five hits and three bases on balls over six innings pitched. The Buccos offense didn’t help the situation with three hits and a walk with Jung-ho Kang connecting on a solo homer to provide the lone spark. Left hander Francisco Liriano is scheduled to face the rival Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. Despite some of the best numbers on the team Liriano is 5-6 with a 2.98 ERA over 18 outings.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates - 7/18/15 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Milwaukee Brewers were one of the top teams in the National League Central at this point of the season in 2014 but suffered through an extremely slow start and are for all intent and purpose are eliminated from contention. Going by the numbers the Brew Crew still have a shot at the postseason but logically they need several teams to collapse. Friday was their night however with Mike Fiers allowing the lone run and striking out seven through seven frames. The Brewers totaled six hits and walked six times with Gerardo Parra and Ryan Braun driving in runs while Scooter Gennett scored twice. The Milwaukee Brewers turn to Jimmy Nelson to control the offense of the Pirates on Saturday. Nelson has been a bit up and down with a 6-9 record with a 4.21 ERA covering 18 starts.

The Brewers have many of the same players on their roster they did a season ago when they were contenders in the National League Central so this is a capable team despite their record. Pittsburgh is the better team however and look like the obvious choice. The numbers scream Pirates but my gut is saying not so fast so I’ll sit this one out….
