The postseason hopeful Houston Astros take the field with the Boston Red Sox Wednesday.
The Boston Red Sox have been waiting for that elusive hot streak that will push them to the top of the American League East. The hot streak will have to wait another day following an 8-3 defeat at Minute Maid Park. Starter Brian Johnson absorbed the loss with four runs allowed on three hits and four BB over 4.1 frames with Justin Masterson allowing three more. The Red Sox managed eight hits with Mookie Betts driving in a pair and scoring while Xander Bogaerts doubled in a run.Left hander Wade Miley will be on the hill to oppose the Astros for the first time in 2015. Miley did not get a decision in a 1-0 defeat at the Angels with a one hit shutout over seven innings of work.

The Houston Astros have suffered through a two week slide where they have lost seven of ten and that has dropped them to second in the American League West. The Astros might be turning their fortunes around with Tuesday’s win being their third in four times out. Rookie Vincent Velasquez improved to 1-1 with all three runs plated on seven hits through six innings. The Stros totaled nine hits and walked four times with Chris Carter going deep and knocking in two while scoring twice. Carlos Correa knocked in two more with Jose Altuve scored two times. Collin McHugh is scheduled to start against the visiting Red Sox for the second time on Wednesday. McHugh defeated Texas 3-2 despite allowing eleven hits covering six innings pitched.
Boston are 6-15 in their last 21 Wednesday games. Houston are 2-7 in their last 9 overall and the under is 6-2-1 in Astros last 9 overall while Houston are 22-8 in their last 30 home games. Boston are 19-7 in the last 26 meetings. I think what this comes down to is these teams are going in opposite directions…
