The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Kansas City Royals match up at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates were red hot before losing three in a row and facing the prospect of facing Kansas City on the road. The bats were cold in Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat at Kansas City and in the process a strong performance on the mound went for naught. Gerrit Cole was outstanding with all three runs allowed (two earned) on five hits over 7.1 frames. The Buccos posted eight hits and walked three times with Gregory Polanco driving in Jung-ho Kang with the lone run. Charlie Morton toes the rubber in Wednesday’s bout at Kauffman Stadium. Morton is coming off of a 4-1 defeat at Milwaukee where he gave up all four runs on five hits and three BB in six innings pitched.

The Kansas City Royals have been tough to handle the past few weeks because of their ability to hit when needed or pitch when needed. The winning continued with Tuesday’s victory with great work on the mound leading the way. This was pitching by committee with six hurlers splitting the work. The Royals totaled six hits but didn’t draw a walk with Jarrod Dyson driving in two runs and scoring while Alcides Escobar drove in another run. Edinson Volquez looks to get in the win column when he opposes visiting Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Volquez threw the ball well in a 2-0 loss at the White Sox with two runs scored on eight hits in 6.1 frames.
The under is 6-2-2 in Pittsburgh’s last 10 Wednesday games and the over is 6-2 in Pirates last 8 road games while Pittsburgh are 36-16 in their last 52 overall. The over is 6-1-1 in Kansas City’s last 8 home games while the Royals are 7-2 in their last 9 home games and 10-3 in their last 13 overall. I’m keeping this simple and going with the hot team…
