The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Milwaukee Brewers face off on Friday at Chase Field for game two of their series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have struggled this season but they got their series with the Brewers off with a win on Thursday. Yasmany Tomas hit a home run, A.J. Pollock had three hits, and Cliff Pennington and Ender Inciarte each had two hits as the Diamondbacks scored eight runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Zack Godley allowed four hits and struck out seven over 6.0 scoreless innings to get his first Major League win. For Friday’s game the Diamondbacks start Patrick Corbin who has allowed 16 hits and eight runs while striking out 13 over 15 innings for a 1-2 record and a 4.80 ERA.

The Milwaukee Brewers had few answers on Thursday as they lost a one sided game in Arizona. Ryan Braun hit a three run home run and Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy each had hits as the Brewers scored three runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Mike Fiers allowed eight hits and five runs, four earned, while striking out 10 over 5,0 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-8 for the season. For Friday’s game the Brewers start Jimmy Nelson who has allowed 110 hits and 55 earned runs while striking out 97 over 115.1 innings for a 7-9 record and a 4.29 ERA.
Arizona is 2-5 in game two of a series, 1-5 in their last six games as a favorite, and 3-7 in Corbin’s last 10 starts. Milwaukee is 8-3 in their last 11 home games, 7-3 against a left-handed starter, and 4-1 in Nelson’s last five starts. Milwaukee is 4-2 in their last six games in Arizona.
The Brewers didn’t get anything going until the ninth inning but I look for that small confidence builder to carry forward here and for the Brewers to get the win.
