The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins face off on Friday at PETCO Park for game two of their series.
The San Diego Padres couldn’t get the bat on the ball as they fell to the Marlins at home on Thursday. Yonder Alonso had a hit and Alexi Amarista had two hits as the Padres failed to score on three hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed eight hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out eight over 5.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-8 for the season. For Friday’s game the Padres start Andrew Cashner who has allowed 113 hits and 50 runs while striking out 97 over 109.2 innings for a 3-10 record and a 4.10 ERA.

The Miami Marlins did all of their scoring in one inning on Thursday but it was enough to get the win in San Diego. Christian Yellich, J.T. Realmuto, and Adeiny Hechavarria each had two hits as the Marlins scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Tom Koehler allowed three hits and struck out seven over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 8-6 for the season. For Friday’s game the marlins start Dan Haren who has allowed 1-4 hits and 45 earned runs while striking out 81 over 117 innings for a 7-5 record and a 3.46 ERA.
San Diego is 2-6 as a favorite, 1-7 following a loss, and 6-13 in Cashner’s last 19 starts. Miami is 6-15 in their last 21 road games, 7-1 against the NL West, and 0-4 in Haren’s last four road starts. Miami is 3-6 in their last nine games in San Diego.
The Marlins had their way on Thursday and with Cashner not seeming to be able to catch a break I look for them to do it again here.
