The Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers face off on Saturday in Anaheim in their MLB series of American League West teams.
The Los Angeles Angels cooled off a bit on Friday as they lost to the Rangers. Mike Trout hit a home run and Kole Calhoun and Johnny Giavotella each had hits as the Angels scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Nicholas Tropeano allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-1 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Angels start Hector Santiago who has allowed 93 hits and 29 earned runs while striking out 108 over 113.1 innings for a 7-4 record and a 2.30 ERA.

The Texas Rangers won for the third game in a row as they beat the Angels on Friday. Josh Hamilton and Elvis Andrus each had two hits and Delino DeShields Jr. added a hit as the Rangers scored four runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Colby Lewis allowed five hits and two runs while striking out nine over 7.2 innings to get the win and go to 10-4 for the season and Shawn Tolleson earned his 16th save. For Sunday’s game the Rangers start Yovani Gallardo who has allowed 106 hits and 38 earned runs while striking out 80 over 117.1 innings for a 7-9 record and a 2.91 ERA.
Los Angeles is 19-8 in their last 27 games, 37-15 as a favorite, and 4-0 in Santiago’s last four home starts. Texas is 5-10 in their last 15 games, 2-5 against a team with a winning record, and 0-4 in Gallardo’s last four starts against the AL West. Texas is 7-21 in the last 28 meetings with Los Angeles.
While Gallardo is a gamer Santiago has seemed to have found his game and he is the choice here.
