The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins face off on Saturday as they continue their MLB series.
The San Diego Padres bounced back from Thursday’s loss as the beat the Marlins on Friday. Yonder Alonso, Matt Kemp, and Brett Wallace each hit home runs as the Padres scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Andrew Cashner allowed five hits and a run while striking out five over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 4-10 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 27th save. For Saturday’s game the Padres start Ian Kennedy who has allowed 92 hits and 48 earned runs while striking out 82 over 90.1 innings for a 5-9 record and a 4.78 ERA.

The Miami Marlins took the lead in the top of the first inning on Friday but that was all of their scoring as they lost to the Padres. Justin Bour had two hits and Martin Prado and Casey McGehee eachhad hits as the Marlins scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Dan Haren allowed eight hits and three runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 7-6 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start David Phelps who has allowed 94 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 63 over 94.1 innings for a 4-6 record and a 3.91 ERA.
San Diego is 5-1 against a team with a winning record, 1-10 in game three of a series, and 1-4 in Kennedy’s last five starts. Miami is 6-2 against the NL West, 18-41 as an underdog, and 0-5 in Phelps’ last five road starts. Miami is 2-7 in their last nine games in San Diego.
The Padres can’t seem to do anything consistently so I am taking the Marlins to bounce back and get the win here.
