The Minnesota Twins and the New York Yankees face off on Sunday at Target Field as they close out their MLB series.
The Minnesota Twins got out to an early lead on Saturday but they were unable to make it stand as they lost to the Yankees. Aaron Hicks and Torii Hunter each hit home runs and Brian Dozier had a hit as the Twins scored five runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Tommy Milone allowed four hits and four runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Glen Perkins took the loss to fall to 0-2 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Twins start Kyle Gibson who has allowed 112 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 84 over 118.2 innings for an 8-7 record and a 3.19 ERA.

The New York Yankees never let the game get away from them on Saturday as they rallied from five runs down to beat the Twins. Alex Rodriguez hit three home runs, J.R. Murphy hit a home run, and Mark Teixeira had two hits as the Yankees scored eight runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia allowed six hits and five runs while striking out three over 5.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Adam Warren got the win and Andrew Miller earned his 23rd save. For Sunday’s game the Yankees start Nathan Eovaldi who has allowed 127 hits and 51 earned runs while striking out 75 over 103.2 innings for a 9-2 record and a 4.43 ERA.
Minnesota is 4-1 in their last five home games, 6-1 against the AL East, and 4-1 in Gibson’s last five starts. New York is 5-1 in their last six games, 6-2 against the AL Central, and 5-1 in Eovaldi’s last six starts. New York is 41-15 in their last 56 games against Minnesota.
This looks like a tough one but Saturday’s game had to bruise the confidence of the Twins and I look for the Yankees to get another win.
