The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins face off on Sunday at PETCO Park as they complete their MLB series.
The San Diego Padres haven’t done a lot right this season but they got it done on Saturday against Miami. Matt Kemp had two hits and Justin Upton and Yangervis Solarte each had hits as the Padres scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Ian Kennedy allowed seven hits and a run while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to get the win to go to 6-9 for the season and Craig Kimbrel earned his 28th save. For Sunday’s game the Padres start Odrisamer Despaigne who has allowed 95 hits and 50 earned runs while striking out 48 over 90.1 innings for a 3-7 record and a 4.98 ERA.

The Miami Marlins couldn’t string hits together as they fell to the Padres in San Diego on Saturday. Derek Dietrich hit a home run, Martin Prado had two hits, and Michael Morse had a hit as the Padres scored one run on eight hits. Starting pitcher David Phelps allowed six hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-7 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Marlins start Mat Latos who has allowed 79 hits and 41 earned runs while striking out 74 over 82.1 innings for a 4-6 record and a 4.48 ERA.
San Diego 6-1 against a team with a losing record, 11-5 in their last six Sunday games, and 1-5 in Despaigne’s last six home starts. Miami is 17-36 in their last 53 road games, 5-17 in game four of a series, and 2-5 in Latos’ last seven road starts. Miami is 1-5 in their last six games against San Diego.
With the total set at 7.0 for me the over is the play with these two pitchers going as they have had bad innings that can take that number there by themselves.
