The Cincinnati Reds head to Busch Stadium to kick off a weekday series with the St Louis Cardinals.
The Cincinnati Reds have likely given up hope of capturing the NL Central crown but they ultimately decide who reaches the postseason with plenty of games remaining against division foes. The Reds took one on the chin Sunday in a 17-7 defeat at Coors Field. Starter Michael Lorenzen was charged with eight runs over 2.1 frames with Dylan Axelrod giving up eight more in 1.2 innings. The Reds still couldn’t keep up despite 14 hits and five walks. Jay Bruce swung the big bat with three hits, four RBI’s and two runs while Joey Votto scored twice. Rookie Rasiel Iglesias gets the start Monday for his second meeting with the Cardinals. Iglesias comes off of a 5-4 loss to the Cubs with two runs scored on six hits and four BB over 5.2 innings.

The St Louis Cardinals are in position to pull away from the rest of the National League Central. The red hot Cardinals fell to Atlanta 3-2 on Sunday afternoon which cost them a game in the standings with the Pirates winning. Michael Wacha gave up all three runs on five hits and a trio of free passes through six innings to absorb the loss. The Redbirds had opportunities on an eight hit, four walk attack but didn’t get the big hit. Matt Holliday and Stephen Piscotty drove in runs with Kolten Wong and Jason Heyward scoring. Lance Lynn hopes to continue his strong work on the mound when he opposes Cincinnati for the first time this season. Overall Lynn has gone 7-5 with a 2.80 ERA over 18 outings.
