The Chicago Cubs look to string some wins together beginning with a victory against the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.
The Colorado Rockies aren’t going to be a factor in the National League West but they are not an easy out. The Cubs found that out in Tuesday’s 7-2 decision with the Rockies getting their bats and offense on the same page. Starter Yohan Flande allowed a run on four hits and a BB over five frames with three relievers finishing the job. The offense came through with ten hits and four walks with Nolan Arenado knocking in two and scoring while Corey Dickerson and Ben Paulsen drove in a run and scored. Eddie Butler toes the rubber against the Cubs for the first time in his career on Wednesday. Butler threw the ball well in a 6-5 win versus Cincinnati with three runs scored on six hits in six frames.

The Chicago Cubs have not been playing well the past week or so and need to right the ship if they expect to make the postseason. The Cubs slowdown continued for another day which saddled the team with defeats in four of five. Dallas Beeler was charged with four runs on four hits and three BB in 1.1 frames with Rafael Soriano allowing two more in an inning of work. The Cubbies seven hit, four walk attack fell short with Chris Coughlin going deep while Jorge Soler doubled in Kyle Schwarber who walked. Left hander Jon Lester draws the start against Colorado on Wednesday. Lester has been in top form the last two times out with a combined two runs allowed on nine hits over 14.1 innings.
Colorado are 7-20 in their last 27 games as an underdog and are 24-67 in their last 91 road games. The over is 6-2 in the Cubs last 8 Wednesday games while Chicago are 2-6 in their last 8 home games with the under going 32-15-4 in their last 51 home games. The Rockies are 17-35 in the last 52 meetings in Chicago. It’s time for Lester to earn his pay as this is a game he should win…
