The Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Wednesday at Minute Maid Park as they continue their series between the top two teams in the American League West.
The Houston Astros beat the Angels on Tuesday to move into a tie for first place in the AL West. Carlos Correa and Chris Carter hit home runs and Jose Altuve had three hits as the Astros scored 10 runs on 14 hits. Starting pitcher Collin McHugh allowed seven hits and five runs, four earned, while striking out three over 5.0 innings to get the win to go to 12-5 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Astros start Lance McCullers who has allowed 53 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 73 over 69.1 innings for a 4-3 record and a 2.60 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels were without Mike Trout on Tuesday and the fell to the Astros in Houston. Chris Ianetta hit a home run, Conor Gillaspie had two hits, and Albert Pujols had a hit as the Angels scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher C.J. Wilson allowed six hits and six runs while striking out three over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-8 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Angels start Garrett Richards who has allowed 98 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 88 over 116.1 innings for a 10-7 record and a 3.25 ERA.
Houston is 6-1 as a favorite, 6-2 in their last eight games, and 4-0 in McCullers last four starts as a home favorite. Los Angeles is 7-3 in their last 10 road games, 19-8 in their last 26 games, and 23-10 in Richards’ last 33 starts. Los Angeles is 1-6 in their last seven games in Houston.
Trout is questionable and if he doesn’t play I have to give the nod to the Astros.
